— A one-vehicle wreck Saturday resulted in the death of a 16-year-old from Craig, according to a news release from the Colorado State Patrol.

Just before noon Saturday, a 1996 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Samuel Jesse Sheridan, 18, rolled on Moffat County Road 10 about 20 miles northwest of Maybell. The vehicle was heading east when it entered a curve to the right, skidded and then rotated clockwise and partly off the road, according to the release. It rotated twice more before rolling three-quarters, sliding and coming to rest on its right side in the road, according to the news release.

Russell Walsh, 16, of Craig was ejected. He and Sheridan were taken by ambulance to The Memorial Hospital in Craig. Sheridan sustained moderate injuries, and Walsh died from his injuries at the hospital, according to the release. Neither was wearing a seat belt, according to the CSP.

Neither drugs nor alcohol is thought to be a factor, but excessive speed is thought to have contributed to the wreck, the CSP stated in its release.
