Chuck McConnell: Freedom Conference coverage

I attended the third annual Freedom Conference this past weekend sponsored by the Steamboat Institute and was very impressed. Given the quality of the event and nationwide exposure provided to Steamboat Springs, I was surprised at the lack of coverage by the Steamboat Pilot & Today.

The guest speakers at the conference represented all parts of our country. Jonah Goldberg, a Pulitzer-nominated columnist and regular contributor to this newspaper, was the keynote speaker. Other speakers included three state’s attorneys general, including Colorado’s own John Suthers. Bob Beauprez, a former Colorado Congressman, along with current Congressmen from Indiana and Illinois were featured on the program as well as a former governor of Wyoming. Nationally known authors and economists also were part of the conference.

Conference attendees came from all across America. I am certain those visitors returned to their homes with positive impressions of our wonderful community and very likely told their friends of their experience.

In my view, the nationwide positive exposure the Freedom Conference provided is a clear benefit to us and deserves expanded coverage. I encourage the Steamboat Pilot & Today to provide increased coverage of future events for the benefit of our residents who do not attend.
