Laura Cusenbary: Community support

On Feb. 17, a group of friends got together to support a Steamboat local battling leukemia. Lesley Chambers is 31 years young and works at Big Agnes. She moved to Steamboat roughly two years ago, and on Sept. 28, 2012, she was diagnosed with cancer. She has been in Denver battling this disease for more than four months, and she has maintained an incredible attitude and perseverance.

The Steamboat community rallied for Lesley during an indoor cornhole tournament Feb. 17. As friend Kerry Shea put it, “This is what it looks like when a community comes together.” Friends, co-workers, local businesses and complete strangers came together in Olympian Hall to make their contribution to her recovery. By donating time, money, prizes, food and more, I was once again reminded of how blessed we are to call Steamboat home.

To everyone who showed up to support Lesley, we want to say thank you. Your overwhelming generosity raised more than $6,000 to support her recovery. And to the many volunteers and local businesses that made it happen: thank you!
