— Meg Boyer, the Steamboat Pilot & Today’s director of advertising, has been named the new vice president of sales and marketing for the Idaho Statesman in Boise, Idaho.

Boyer’s last day at the Pilot & Today is June 3.

Steamboat Pilot & Today Editor Brent Boyer, Meg’s husband, will join her in Boise. Brent’s last day with the Pilot & Today is June 20.

A public farewell reception for the Boyers is from 4 to 6 p.m. June 3 at the Pilot & Today, 1901 Curve Plaza.

“Brent and Meg are an incredibly talented pair of journalists whose daily contributions to the success of the Steamboat Pilot & Today are going to be missed,” General Manager Scott Stanford said. “Professionally, I am very excited for them and the opportunities ahead of them in Boise. Personally, I will miss them greatly. Our newspaper and our community were truly enhanced by their contributions.”

Meg, a native of Elkhorn, Neb., started at the Pilot & Today as a copy editor in 2003. Over the years, she worked as the newspaper’s news editor, creative services manager and advertising director. She has won state and national awards for page design, advertising design and marketing. In 2012, she was recognized as one of 25 rising stars in the newspaper industry by Editor & Publisher magazine.

Under her direction, the advertising staff won the Local Media Association’s national award for advertising innovation in 2012 and took home a similar honor from the Colorado Press Association.

“Words can’t express how thankful I am to the Steamboat Pilot & Today. For 10 years, I have had the opportunity to work with some of the hardest-working, most dedicated people imaginable,” Meg said. “I will miss being a part of the Steamboat Today team and wish them the very best in the future.”

Brent Boyer came to the Pilot & Today in December 2002 after a stint at The Denver Post. He worked for the Pilot & Today as a reporter and then a copy editor until 2005, when he was named the newspaper’s city editor. In 2007, he took over as editor of the newspaper.

As a reporter, Brent won numerous awards from the Colorado Press Association and the Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters for his writing. During his tenure as an editor, the Pilot & Today was named the best newspaper in its circulation class by the Colorado Press Association six times in eight years.

Brent is weighing a couple of career opportunities in Boise.

“Leaving Steamboat and the Pilot & Today is truly bittersweet,” he said. “I feel extremely fortunate to have spent the past decade in such an amazing community and at such a superb community news organization. But I’m also excited about the opportunities that lie ahead.”

The Boyers were active in the Rotary Club of Steamboat Springs and served as mentors with Partners in Routt County. Meg is vice president of Routt County United Way’s board of directors and has twice served as its campaign committee chairwoman. The Boyers have a 2-year-old daughter, Avery.
