Holy Name Catholic Church hosts craft bazaar today

Holy Name Catholic Church is hosting its 16th annual Work of Human Hands Holiday Craft Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Ninth and Oak streets in Steamboat Springs. The event will include a bake sale to benefit Holy Name’s youth group, an authentic Mexican food luncheon, live music and face-painting. Handmade gifts and unique “fair trade” products from several countries around the world will be included in the sale. Featured items include baskets, jewelry, musical instruments, kitchen items, scarves and holiday items. Proceeds from the bazaar will be donated directly to a local charity.

Family skate party is set for Sunday at ice arena

The city of Steamboat Springs is hosting a family skate party from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Howelsen Ice Arena, 285 Howelsen Parkway. The free event includes admission, skate rentals, bumper cars and Beau Jo’s pizza.



Ski Town Lions Club hosts Ton of Turkey fundraiser

The Steamboat Ski Town Lions Club is hosting its annual Ton of Turkey Thanksgiving food drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Safeway, 37500 E. U.S. Highway 40. The club hopes to collect 2,000 pounds of turkey, or about 150 birds, which will be donated to LIFT-UP of Routt County locations in Steamboat Springs, Oak Creek and Hayden. Safeway is supporting the effort by offering 12- to 14-pound turkeys for $6 to $8 with a purchase of $30 or more today.



With the donation of a turkey, customers will receive a $5 coupon for a Lions Club Christmas tree, which will be available beginning today at Christy Sports in Central Park Plaza and at the lot at 13th Street and Lincoln Avenue.

Reusable bag campaign to be held at City Market

The annual Put Your Turkey in a Bag education campaign is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at City Market, 1825 Central Park Drive. Members of the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council and Yampa Valley Recycles will sell Keep our Mountains Green reusable shopping bags for $1 each. Those who purchase or bring a reusable bag can get a free “remember your bag” door hanger. Call 970-870-2896 for more information.

Council suggests giving tree donations for gifts

The Yampa Valley Sustainability Council is suggesting tree donations as gifts this holiday season. The donated funds will be used in January to purchase trees for ReTree Steamboat, a annual tree-planting event in June that helps to replace trees killed by the mountain pine beetle.

Giving levels are as follows:

■ Douglas Fir: $10 (5 trees)

■ Engelmann: $24 (12 trees)

■ Blue Spruce: $50 (25 trees)

■ Evergreen: $100 or more (50 or more trees)

Those who give $25 or more will receive a card for friends or family describing the gift.

Saplings can be prepurchased from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at City Market and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at Strawberry Park Elementary School. For more information or to purchase trees, go to http://www.yvsc.org/retree.
