Soroco’s Charlee Veilleux hit a shot to tie the score, and DaKota Bruner sank two free throws to give the Soroco High School girls basketball team an overtime victory Saturday night against the Mesa Ridge junior varsity team.
“It was a heck of a game,” coach David Bruner said. “Everyone pitched in. We played nine kids, and all of them helped out.”
The game was close throughout, thanks, in part, to Mesa Ridge’s excellent 3-point shooting.
Soroco responded with big offense of its own. Briana Peterson scored 29 points and DaKota Bruner had 27. Morgan George, meanwhile, helped slow Mesa Ridge with her defense.
The win wrapped up the Rams’ stay at the Meeker Cowboy Shoot Out, where they went 2-1 to start the season.
“It was a good weekend,” David Bruner said. “We’re pretty pleased coming out of there 2-1. We have a lot to work on, though.”
