Soroco built a fat first-half lead Friday night playing on the road at Sanford, but saw it cut in half when the Indians returned the second-half kickoff for a touchdown.

The Rams answered with 28 more points in the third quarter to seal the game and ensure they’d improve to 2-1. Soroco won on the road 62-28.

The key, coach Dick Dudas said, was up front.

“One of our goals was to gain control of the line of scrimmage. We did that down at Sanford,” he said.

The stats certainly back up his assessment. Soroco sophomore Jace Logan rumbled for 312 yards on only 18 carries, good for better than 17 yards on every touch. It was going so well for Logan than even when he was tackled short, on the two-yard line, he pitched the ball backwards to lineman Schuyler Carlson, who quickly scored his first touchdown of the season.

“That kid is good,” Dudas said, summing up Logan in a few words.

The rest of the Rams were pretty good Friday, too. Quarterback Isaac Jonas scored three touchdowns rushing and hooked up with Brandon Veilleux for one through the air.

The game went from close after that kick return 28-21 to a running block by the fourth quarter.

Soroco did it with that running attack and by grabbing consistent turnovers. It recovered three fumbles, one each for Veilleux, Logan and Carlson, and got to interceptions from Jonas.

“I was very pleased with it,” Dudas said. “We can score some points. Our next goal we’re going to work on is continuing to own the line of scrimmage.”
