Oak Creek The Hayden High School boys basketball team had a lead in the second half, but it wasn’t the only team desperate for a win Saturday.
Soroco erased the deficit, then pulled away in the game’s final quarter to knock off the Tigers and win its third game of the season.
Soroco beat Hayden, 48-38.
The Rams got a game-high 18 points from junior Colton Stroup, and his biggest baskets came when the game was being decided. He hit two huge 3-point shots in the fourth, part of an 11-point fourth-quarter surge from Stroup that helped keep Hayden down.
Grant Redmond also had 12 points for Soroco and a 4-for-4 performance from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.
Hayden, seeking its first win in 31 games, since Feb. 14, 2015, appeared to have a shot at one at points Saturday. The game was tie 27-27 late in the third quarter and stayed close into the fourth. A long dry spell through the middle of the fourth quarter allowed Soroco to pull away, however.
Garrett St. Clair had 11 and Alan Aguirre nine.
Hayden dropped to 0-13 on the season. Soroco is 3-13.
