Figure skaters Ellie Brown, Mallory Thomas, Lily Frinks, and Natasha Curzon, pictured from left, recently competed in the Fort Collins Classic figure skating competition. Brown placed fifth in pre-preliminary showcase, Frinks was sixth in pre-preliminary free skate, Thomas was second in basic skills showcase and Curzon was fourth in preliminary spins and fourth in free skate. The members of the Steamboat Springs Figure Skating Club, including these four standouts, will be featured in the group's annual spring skating show "A Night at the Movies," which is slated for May 21 at the Howelsen Ice Arena.

Local actor and attorney Kris Hammond portrays Carl Howelsen with hopes of impressing officials with Colorado Creative Industries who were in Steamboat Springs Monday touring the local arts scene. Steamboat arts leaders and officials from the city of Steamboat Springs joined a tour of many of the town's unique arts and cultural attractions. Tour organizers are hoping the panel from Colorado Creative Industries will designate Steamboat as a Creative Arts District.

The music of the ski season-ending concert by the Wailers hadn't died down Sunday afternoon before Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. lift maintenance workers began preliminary work on refurbishing the gondola. Crews from Doppelmayr USA will also be involved in the project, which is expected to delay summer operations at Steamboat Ski Area until June 30, a couple of weeks later than is typical.
