University of New Mexico Alex Barounos cuts down Howelsen Hill during a 2016 race. Barounos, who graduated from Steamboat Springs High School and trained in town, is a sophomore for the Lobos, who announced last week that they were canceling their NCAA Division 1 ski program.

Steamboat Springs Girl Scouts, including Lyla Baker, center, took over Strings Music Pavilion for World Thinking Day on April 14. Girl Scouts practiced their dance moves, worked on team building and even took home saplings from the U.S. Forest Service as part of the day's theme: GROW.

Hakeem Bilal, of Beauty Slap, dances along with the Steamboat Springs High School jazz band while rehearsing for a concert that will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Strings Music Pavilion. The event will feature the sounds of Beauty Slap along with Steamboat Springs and Moffat County high school bands. Band members have been working with the students as part of the Strings Music Festival's School Days Program. The concert is free but tickets are required.
